Avoid These Common Mistakes When Ordering Carton Flow Racks

Here at Material Flow Technologies, we\’re all about finding the best industrial storage solutions and automation tools for our customers.  When a customer orders a product such as carton flow racks, we want to make sure they\’re getting the right equipment for their needs, providing superior long-term ROI.  As part of that, we also do our best to warn customers away from common mistakes – which is what this article is here to do!

We\’ve seen a lot of mistakes from customers ordering carton flow racks, so hopefully, we can help prevent some of them going forward.

4 Common Mistakes When Ordering Carton Flow Racks

  1. Thinking flow racks are \”one size fits all\”

Not all flow racks fit all sizes of carton!  In fact, we carry several different sizes, specifically so we can accommodate as many different carton types as possible.  If you know ahead of time the size and shape of the cartons you intend to use, we\’ll be able to ensure your system fits them.

  1. Not checking software compatibility

What software are you using to control your warehouse and inventory?  Our solutions are compatible with a wide variety of common software solutions on the market – but there are exceptions.  In general, it\’s a good idea to have the details on your software whenever ordering any automated industrial storage solutions.

  1. Not getting a full visual schematic of the proposed system

It\’s definitely a bad idea to order a flow rack without having a good idea what it\’s going to look like, and how it will fit into your existing space.  At the least, you should be getting schematics showing the system from multiple sides, as well as top-down.  Ideally, you should be working with 3D mockups modeled after your warehouse – that\’s the best way to avoid any sizing or installation issues.

  1. Not testing out the system beforehand

The first time you try out your flow rack should not be when it\’s installed on your warehouse floor!  A good manufacturer will first assemble it in their own facility and give it a test run, before approving it for final installation.  If possible, get a video so that you can see it in action and suggest tweaks to the system.
